Serving Aboriginal Learners in Penticton, Summerland, and the surrounding communities
Elementary Teaching
(1.0 FTE teacher/3 support workers)
  • Provide early success instruction to qualifying aboriginal children (grades k-3)
  • Work with pupils to increase classroom success
  • Encourage the inclusion of aboriginal cultural in the elementary schools
  • Assist school based educators serving elementary aboriginal students
  • Work with parents to strengthen the home-school team
  • Teacher provides advice and direction to Aboriginal Education Support Workers
  • Teacher directs the elementary tutorial service
Middle School Teaching
(0.5 FTE teacher/2 support workers)
  • Work with Aboriginal students to increase classroom success
  • Provide counseling and support to middle school aboriginal students
  • Encourage the inclusion of aboriginal culture in the middle schools
  • Assist school based educators serving middle school aboriginal students
  • Work with parents to strengthen the home-school team
  • Teacher provides advice and direction to Aboriginal Education Support Worker
Secondary School Teaching
(1.0 FTE teacher/1 support worker)
  • Work with Aboriginal students to increase classroom success
  • Provide counseling and support to secondary school aboriginal students
  • Assist school based educators serving secondary aboriginal students
  • Work with parents to strengthen the home-school team
  • Teacher teaches Aboriginal Futures at Princess Margaret and Penticton Secondary schools
  • Support First Nation Studies 12 at the high schools
  • Facilitate the secondary/post secondary transition for aboriginal students
Aboriginal Education Counselor
(1.0 FTE teacher)
  • Provides counseling and support to students at all levels
  • Assists school based educators serving Aboriginal students
  • Works with parents to strengthen the home-school team
  • Is a member of the District Crisis team
