| Building Instructional Capacity |
 |
The district has worked collaboratively with the district
Professional Development Committee & is currently in the 6th year of a building Instructional Capacity Initiative. The first two years involved a partnership with leading educator/ researcher Barrie Bennett from OISE (Ontario Institute for Studies in Education). Dr. Bennett’s academic work focuses on the ways in which teachers integrate instructional models or strategies through an understanding of how students learn. The rationale is to create a more meaningful & powerful learning environment for students.
Teachers and administrators from our region are actively involved in developing their skills & understanding of teaching skills & applying strategies to meet the diverse needs of learners. For a history on the district growth view our Power Point Presentation on Building Instructional Capacity |
As part of this initiative, lead teachers from throughout the district are being video taped as they use a variety of instructional strategies in their classrooms. The first of these Instructional Strategy Sample Lessons are ready for viewing.
