Welcome to the School District 67 (Okanagan Skaha) Science Fair. The Fair is held every year in School District 67. This year it will be held at the KVR Middle School Gym (300 Jermyn Avenue, Penticton).
We hope you enjoy your time at the Fair. The following guidelines are provided to help you and the Science Fair Committee make this the best Fair ever.
Steps you should take:
1) Download Guidelines Booklet - This booklet contains lots of important information on getting started, types of projects, backdrops and safety. It is in PDF format and will require Adobe Acrobat Reader.
2) If you plan on using
Human OR animal subjects, read the Guidelines for use of Human Subjects and Use
of Animals which can be found on the National Science Fair site by following
these links:

3) NOTE: as of 2011, projects requiring ingestion of caffeine or energy not acceptable
4) Read through the following information
It is your responsibility to keep your display area neat and tidy at all times. This may even include picking up litter left by visitors. DO NOT leave your display unattended. If you are in pairs, one person must remain with the display at all times. If you are alone, make arrangements with the person next to you to keep an eye on your display when you have to leave for awhile.

Wear your colored participant ribbon at all times. It is your entry ticket to the Science Fair room and other contests/rewards. Have the display card visible on your project at all times.
During the next two days, many people will visit the Science Fair. They will be of all ages and their scientific knowledge will vary from great to very little. Greet all visitors in a friendly, courteous manner. Be patient and answer questions about your display with sincerity and enthusiasm. (But don't give lengthy explanations as visitors have many exhibits to look at.)
Check the timetable to see when the judges will be visiting the displays and when awards are to be made. Your exhibit will be examined by several judges (for art work, science work and special prizes) after which you will need to stay with your project for public viewing and the awards ceremony.

All prize winners will receive a rosette and a cash award. The cash awards vary depending upon the grade and level entered. Winners have the opportunity to go on to the Regional Fair. Application requirements and information will be given to the winners. |
You are advised to bring a snack and arrange for lunch on Tuesday. The Science Fair ends a noon on Tuesday. Students will be expected to return to their regularly scheduled classes on Tuesday afternoon.
The best place for valuable apparatus and materials is at home when you are not at the Fair. Security is provided but there are over 100 projects to watch.
There are pay phones in the lobby of the Convention Centre.
There might be times when "business" at the fair is slower. Use these times to:
| - | clean up your display area. | |
| - | make necessary repairs to signs, equipment, etc. | |
| - | visit other displays (but don't leave yours unattended) | |
| - | complete school assignments | |
| - | read or talk quietly with neighbours |
Lunch, a book to read, and school assignments.
Walkmans, ghetto blasters, electronic games, comics, money.
See the officials at the Control Desk or ask a roving Science Fair Official (wearing a ribbon) for help. They will be glad to assist you.
There is a First Aid kit at the KVR office and fire extinguishers at various locations in KVR. No open flames or dangerous substances are permitted, of course.
You are at the Science Fair because your teacher and principal believe that you can behave in a responsible manner. Don't let them down. While at the Fair you are subject to all school rules. There is also a NO RUNNING and a NO SHOUTING rule at the fair. We don't want to close any display down and send the exhibitors back to their schools because of poor manners or behaviour. But this can happen if we feel it is necessary.
HAVE FUN AND GOOD LUCK!
