SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION PROGRAM

Goal:
bullet

           To identify, develop and promote prevention-based projects, events and activities around substance use and addiction issues

bullet

         Provide up-to-date information/resources to the general student body, parents, counselors and educator on drugs, alcohol and other addiction related issues

bullet

       Assist students and staff in gaining the knowledge and skills required to identify students at risk, and acquire appropriate support

bullet

        Promote healthy lifestyle activities (positive time management skills, sports, art, and relaxation techniques) to reduce stress and encourage healthy decision making and coping skills

Approach:
bullet

        Through the delivery of in-class presentations on substance use and addiction issues, counseling support,  and the supply of resources to increase awareness and reduce addiction issues

bullet

        The initiation and promotion of early intervention initiatives via screening and  referrals for students who are in need of knowledge, support, and direction

bullet

        Whenever possible, through the sharing of resources and participation in and promotion of community efforts that seek to increase awareness and understanding around addiction issues

Referral Service:

         Students are welcome to access these services at any time, on a ‘drop-in’ basis, or

         Students may be referred through parents, school staff and/or administration

bulletReferrals from parents for family and individual counseling can also be made directly to our Youth and Family Counselor at the Pathways offices. 250-492-0400
