Yesterday was a ski day and about 30 students attended.
Parent teacher interviews will be held on March 10 2:30 pm- 5:30 pm. Some teachers have made
requests of parents they would like to see, so those parents are being called
to set up a meeting time. The first hour of the interview times will be for
appointments only and then walks in meetings are available from 3:30-5:30. Some teachers have requested to be
in their classrooms during the interviews and some teachers will be in the
science wing. Therefore parents will be handed their students rubric and a map
of the school when they come in so that they will be able to find the teacher
they are looking for. There will be early dismissal on March 10 & 11.
The next grad parent meeting will be Wednesday March 9 in
the library at 7:00pm. An Evening of Improv will be held in Centre Stage on March 11, this will
be following a drama workshop that students from Pen High, Maggie and SSS
may participate in. Spring break will be
March 19-April 3. Jr. and Sr. girls soccer teams will
be starting. Ms. Clarke will coach the Jr’s and Mr. Fry will coach the Sr’s.
Mr. Lay will be coaching a golf team and Mr. Brickenden
will be the track coach again this year.
Thank you to all of our coaches.
Vice Principal’s
Report: Donna Moroz
Donna presented a video on the SSS
Greenhouse Project. The video was made by the students who are involved with
the greenhouse project. The SSS
Greenhouse Project has been entered in the BC Green Games. 10 high schools
winners will be awarded a $1000.00. Should SSS
be chosen a winner the funds would be used to purchase materials needed to keep
the greenhouse project running for another year. The video will soon be available to view on
the SSS website and parents and students
will be able to vote for our school. Voting online will take place Mar 1-31, 2011. The PAC members were given a tour of the
greenhouse.
Raja Gupta and his team will be going to Calgary
as a finalist in the Iron Science Teacher competition. We wish them all the
best of luck we know they will do an excellent job.
Treasurer’s Report: The
cheque for $10700.00 payable to SSS has been processed and
will be used for all of the budget approved items. This leaves the gaming
account balance at $443.89. Raja Gupta
has received support from the Kiwanis Club to help offset the cost of attending
the Iron Science Teacher competition. The $2000.00 cheque
is payable to the PAC. This cheque
will be deposited to the PAC account and then a cheque
will be issued Raja Gupta for the expenses of this trip.
DPAC Report: SSS
is now a member of the BCCPAC because our application was sent in late so SSS
will not be able to vote this year. The high cost of high school athletics was
discussed and Pen High is looking at corporate sponsorship to help with these
costs. Pen High and DPAC
have consulted with the school board to see if there is any policy around
corporate sponsorship. The board has agreed to set up a policy group that can
help create a policy around corporate sponsorship for athletics. DPAC
would like to see equal representation from all 3 high schools on this policy
group so if a parent is interest in participating please let the PAC know asap. Julie Planiden
has requested that the May 25th DPAC
meeting will be held at the Summerland
Middle School in the library at 7:00pm.
PAC representatives from all schools in the district are invited. DPAC has
been informed of a movie night license that is required in some cases to show
movies as fundraisers for events. The license can cost between
$375.00-$575.00 and fines for not having the license are in the
$10,000.00 range.
Recently some PAC’s have been audited regarding their Gaming
funds and it was noted that some PAC’s are issuing lump sum cheques
to their school and then the school is dispersing those funds according to the
approved PAC budget. This process is not correct and the PAC funds are to be
distributed directly to the company etc. that is owed. Receipts must be kept
for all transactions. Example. PAC must pay the bus
company directly and not pay the school.
Meeting adjourned at 8:00pm next meeting Wednesday April 6, 7:00pm SPC
will meet before the PAC meeting at 6:15pm
