Date Assignment Wed Sept 14 Completed the DMA reflection sheet to see what we remembered from grade 7 Math. Students were to get the Math 8 Outline signed by parent/guardian. Students worked in a group to unscramble shapes and make the same shape and same size using the shapes. HW = make sure that the outline is signed and put in your Math binder Thur Sept Wrote the Area and Perimeter pre-test. HW = Mrs. Arcuri's Master's Degree permission form signed. Fri Sept 16 Sun-Oka Team Building day, no Math class today. Mon Sept 19
Handed back the Area and Perimeter pre-test. Looked at the definition of polygons, quadrilaterals and other shapes. Students started to fill in the polygon formula sheet. No HW
Tues Sept 20
Read the story, Spaghetti and Meatballs For All. Students completed journal activities on area and perimeter. No HW!
Wed Sept 21
Reflected on the story, Spaghetti and Meatballs For All, and discussed area and perimeter. Students traced their foot on grid paper to see if there was a relationship between area and perimeter. No HW
Thur Sept 22
Continued our discussion from last class, regarding if there is a relationship between perimeter and area and completed the Perimeter Notes. Students used hoola-hoops to practice measuring and calculating radius, diameter, and circumference of a circle. Way to go Liam, Miranda, and Shane on the hoola-hoop contest. HW = practice times tables.
Fri Sept 23
Discussed perimeter of irregular shapes and continued page 2 of the Perimeter Notes. HW = complete the perimeter practice.
Mon Sept 26
Students marked their own perimeter practice homework from last day. Read, "Grandfather Tang's Story" and used tangrams to make characters out of the tangram shapes. Discussed area of regular and irregular shapes and completed the Area Notes. HW = complete the last 2 questions on the area notes.
Tues Sept 27
Students who are not completing their math homework on a regular basis, need to do so!!!! Use your planner and make sure to take home what is assigned on the website and the homework board in class. Discussed the last two questions from the Area Notes from last day. HW = students complete the Area of Irregular Shapes assignment, due Wed.
Wed Sept 28
Mrs. Arcuri marked the Area of Irregular Shapes assignment in class. If you have corrections to be made, please do them for homework.
|Thur Sept 29
Students recreated a character from Grandfater Tang's Story using tanagrams, traced their character onto paper, measured the side lengths, and calculated the total area and perimeter of the character. HW = Finish the area and perimeter of your character, due Friday.
Fri Sept 30
Students completed the area and perimeter house webquest. HW= Area and Perimeter test Tuesday.
Date Assignment Mon Oct 3
Reviewed area and perimeter of 2-D regular and irregular shapes. HW = Test on Area and Perimeter tomorrow, take a look at the practice (worksheet 1, worksheet 2, worksheet 3, worksheet 4).
Tues Oct 4 Students wrote the area and perimeter test for 2-D regular and irregular shapes. No HW!!! Wed Oct 5 As a class we discussed and marked the test from last class. Treats on Friday to thank everyone that has brought in their permission form and participated in Mrs. Arcuri's Master's project. Thur Oct 6 Students discussed the difference between prisms and pyramids by writing down what they knew, what they learned, and what they still want to know. No HW! Fri Oct 7 We defined what a net diagram was for a 3-D shape and looked at how some packages were made from net diagrams. Students created net diagrams for cubes. No HW! Tues Oct 11 Discussed surface area of a cube and a rectangular prism. Students calculated the surface area of the both a 3-D cube and a 3-D rectangular prism that they created. HW = finish calculating the surface area of the rectangular prism if you haven't already. Wed Oct 12 Students practiced calculating surface area of rectangular prisms on real packages and then started the surface area practice sheet (do not have to do cylinders). HW = rectangular prism surface area practice sheet, due Thursday. Thurs Oct 13 Discussed triangular prism surface area and practiced calculating it. HW = triangular prism surface area practice sheet, due Friday. Fri Oct 14 Discussed surface area of cylinders. Students cut out, created cylinders and determined the surface area of the cylinders. HW = Cylinder Surface Area practice, due Monday. Surface Area quiz on Monday for all the shapes we discussed. Mon Oct 17 Students wrote a short quiz on the surface area of a cube, rectangular prism, triangular prism, and cylinder. Handed out the Oreo project to discuss the project students will be doing after discussing volume of 3-D shapes. No HW Tues Oct 18

| Thurs Nov 3 | Students have been working on their "Oreo Cookie Project" in class. The assignment is due on Monday, November 7. Please see Oct 17 above for a link to the project. HW = work on project! |
| Wed Nov 9 | Students were given extra time to complete their packaging they made for their Oreo Cookie Project. We finished most of the presentations today, GREAT JOB to everyone that presented! We will be doing some review next week and then moving onto the next unit: Integers. |
| Mon Nov 14 | Investigated our "Multiple Intelligences" in class today. Discovered that our class has many Musical, Interpersonal and Bodily-Kinesthetic learners in our class. Looking forward to starting our new unit by the end of the week: Integers! |
