Date Assignment Mon Sept 12 Students were introduced to commonly used lab equipment today by rotating through stations that contained the items. Students drew and labeled each of the 21 items on the Science Equipment Sheet. HW = make sure that the Science Equipment sheet is in your binder for next class. Good day in the lab today! Wed Sept 14 Handed out the Science 8 Outline and discussed lab safety (see page 388-389) in your textbook or the grey arrow at the top of the this page. Students watched the lab safety rap and next class they will begin their lab safety poster, rap or story. HW = get Sc 8 Outline signed and lab safety rap, poster, video is due Monday. Fri Sept 16 Sun-Oka Team Building day, no Science class today. Tues Sept 20 Used some of Science block for Math today. HW = Lab safety rap/poster/video is due Thursday now. No more class time to work on it. Thurs Sept 22 Students worked in groups and as a class to complete the lab safety test. Good job 8-3's on getting 100%. Started reviewing the scientific method and what students learned during Science Fair last year. Filled in the Scientific Method notes and we will continue with this next class. HW = complete the Sc Method notes for Monday. Mon Sept 26 Students finished filling in the Scientific Method notes and reviewed independent, dependent, and controlled variables. HW = review the scientific method so that you are prepared to start writing up a lab next class and make sure that you and your partner have completed identifying the 3 types of variables in your fake experiment. Wed Sept 28 Groups presented the independent, dependent, and controlled variables from their "scenarios" (fake experiments). Looked at how to graph independent and dependent variables and received the problem that groups will designing a scientific experiment on. HW = have your group members to Mrs. Arcuri by the end of the day and start thinking about how you are going to design an experiment to find the best 15 minute workout that will increase your heart rate the most! Fri Sept 30 Students read articles on exercise and took notes to start their background knowledge paragraph. No HW
Date Assignment Tues Oct 4 Students completed their procedure for the exercise experiment and discussed the criteria for the whole project. HW = background paragraph is due Thursday and be prepared to do your exercises in PE class on Thursday. Wed Oct 5 Today we had Science class to make sure that our procedures were ready for Thursday's PE class. Students worked on correcting their procedures to include details missing. HW = procedure corrections and good copy is due Thursday during advisory. Thur Oct 6 Students completed their hypothesis and data table for their exercise experiment during Science and completed their procedure for the exercise experiment during PE. HW = background paragraph (information gathering) for exercise experiment is due tomorrow. Fri Oct 7 All groups should have completed their exercises and data table for the exercise experiment. Some students even started graphing their results. Students will have one more block to complete the good copy of their exercise experiment, see criteria sheet for what needs to be completed. HW = good copy of exercise experiment due Thursday. Tues Oct 11 Students graphed their exercise data and completed their discussion, conclusion, and new questions. HW = good copy of exercise experiment is due Thursday, see criteria sheet. Thurs Oct 12 Collected the exercise experiment and students attended the Me to We assembly. Mon Oct 17 Collected the exercise experiment, it was due today!!! Discussed the 7 characteristics of living things, students completed the notes and watched the video (check it out) on the 7 characteristics. No HW!
Date Assignment Thurs Nov 3 Students have started their Cell Poster Projects. This assignment is due on Wednesday, November 16. They will be provided with class time to work on this project but should be doing work at home! Wed Nov 9 Students continued to work on their Cell Poster Project. Reminded only one more class to work on this assignment. The rest of the assignment will need to be done for homework! Assignment is due on Wednesday, November 16th!!! Mon Nov 14 Worked on our Cell Project in class today. Reminder: Due on Wednesday, November 16!!!!
