Date Assignment Tues Sept 13 Students were introduced to commonly used lab equipment today by rotating through stations that contained the items. Students drew and labeled each of the 20 items on the Science Equipment Sheet. HW = make sure that the Science Equipment sheet is in your binder for next class. Good day in the lab today! Thur Sept 15 Handed out the Science 8 Outline and discussed lab safety (see page 388-389) in your textbook or the grey arrow at the top of the this page. Students watched the lab safety rap and started their lab safety poster/rap. HW = get Sc 8 Outline signed and lab safety rap, poster, video is due Monday. Mon Sept 19 Mrs. Arcuri did a distillation demo, using lab safety. Students continued to work on their lab safety poster/rap/video. HW = lab safety rap/poster/video due at the end of class today. Wed Sept 21 Students worked in groups and as a class to complete the lab safety test. Good job 8-2's on getting 100%. Started reviewing the scientific method and what students learned during Science Fair last year. Started filling in the Scientific Method notes and we will continue this next class. No HW. Fri Sept 23 Students finished filling in the Scientific Method notes and reviewed independent, dependent, and controlled variables. HW = review the scientific method so that you are prepared to start writing up a lab next class. Tues Sept 27 Students signed out their textbook and completed the textbook form. Groups presented the independent, dependent, and controlled variables from their "scenarios" (fake experiments). Looked at how to graph independent and dependent variables. No HW! Thur Sept 29 Students got into their exercise experiment groups, discussed the criteria of the exercise experiment, and started writing the procedure and picked their three exercises that groups will be testing. HW = procedure is due the end of next class. October
Date Assignment Mon Oct 3 Students finished their procedure for their exercise experiment and handed it in. Started reading the exercise articles to start the background information paragraph for the exercise experiment. HW = background information paragraph due at the end of next class. Wed Oct 5 Students worked on correcting their procedures to include details missing and completed their hypothesis for their exercise experiment, see criteria sheet. HW = list of materials & procedure corrections and good copy are due tomorrow morning during advisory. Thur Oct 6 Mr. Bond collected the corrected good copy of the exercise experiment procedure that was due today. Fri Oct 7 All groups should have completed their exercises and data table for the exercise experiment today. Some students even started graphing their results. Students will have one more block to complete the good copy of their exercise experiment, see criteria sheet for what needs to be completed. HW = good copy of exercise experiment due next Friday. Wed Oct 12
Students had time to complete their discussion, conclusion and new questions (see criteria sheet) for the exercise experiment. HW = good copy of exercise experiment is due Friday.
Fri Oct 14 Collected the exercise experiment, it was due today!!! Discussed the 7 characteristics of living things, students completed the notes and watched the video (check it out) on the 7 characteristics. No HW! Tues Oct 18 Students watched video clips on the introduction to cells, discussed the parts of a cell, and completed the cell notes. HW = check out the two websites at the bottom of the notes.

Date Assignment Thurs Nov 3 Students have started their Cell Poster Projects. This assignment is due on Tuesday, November 15. They will be provided with class time to work on this project but should be doing work at home! Thurs Nov 10 We did not have a science class today due to the Remembrance Day ceremonies. Reminder to students: Cell Poster Project is due: Tuesday, November 15. Students will need to be completing this assignment at home this long weekend!!!
