Penticton Secondary Media Art

05/27/2011

Welcome to my website!  My name is Russell Stasiuk and I have been teaching in British Columbia for the past thirty-two years.  I spent my first 10 years as an art teacher in Prince Rupert's Booth Memorial School (replaced by Charles Hayes Secondary School in 1992), and moved to the Okanagan in 1989.  I continued teaching art in Penticton Secondary School, and about 15 years ago turned on my first computer.  I taught my last art class five years ago and have been full time digital ever since.

I now teach Film and Television, Animation and Digital Photography.  Please check out some of our past projects in my PSMART Classics' section, and some of this year's work under What's New.

I hope you enjoy the show(s)!

What's NEW in 2010-2011: (check out #7....a provincial winner!)

1. We received first place in CATO's 48 hour contest.  Check out  Animal Prom.

We also received third place with this fantastic junior entry, Letter Garden.

2. We picked up second and third place in this year's Skills Canada regional competition.

Check out our: Second Place Winner: 7750-08.     Third Place Winner : Spy Games

And these are just plain fun: James Tire, and The Blind Date.

3. Although we didn't win any prizes in this year's Zoom Fest (a 48 hour weekend contest), we have 4 great entries   that I know you would enjoy:

4.  Have you ever heard of the 30 second video contest Art By Chance?  We gave it a try (second year-in-a-row), and unfortunately our entry was not picked; actually nothing from Canada was selected.  But the kids are really proud of their project.  Check out Art By Chance - Chromatic for their 30 second version, and Chromatic for the BC Student Film Festival version.

5. We also entered this year's BC Student Film Festival, and although we did not win anything this year, we have two excellent entries that you may like to check.  Senior Documentary: Africa.  Junior PSA: Recycling.

6. We had one entry in this year's Racism, Stop It video contest: We're All The Same On The Inside.

7. After six years of competing in the ICBC Student Saftey video contest, we finally won FIRST PLACE in the province!   Check out our winning Grade 11/12 entry: Open Your Eyes.

8. Andrew Fudge placed second for his video entry in the South Okanagan Mental Health Contest: Psychosis, Mental Prison.

9. We have three short movies that will be featured on a new web site: A Hopeful Sign.  Be sure to check out this inspiring new site.
