School Messenger

Complete (Feb 2020)

School Messenger allows for multi-channel communications to parents. School Messenger will replace School Connect as the platform used for attendance communication to parents. School Messenger is a cloud hosted service from a Canadian Datacentre, moving to a cloud hosted service will allow for push communications to parents even if there are network or power issues in our schools. For more information on School Messenger please see: https://www.schoolmessenger.com/school-notification/. To request training for your school please contact the IT Helpdesk or https://learning.sd67.bc.ca

Datacentre & Virtualization Consolidation and Upgrade

Complete (Feb 2020)

Server virtualization allows SD67 to maximize its investment in Server hardware by running multiple instances of virtualized servers on one physical server. This project will consolidate SD67’s virtualization platforms to one, upgrade aged hardware that is no longer supported, upgrade the virtualization platform, and reduce number of servers needed to run SD67 systems.

The benefits of this project are:

  • Reduced risk of data loss due to hardware failure
  • Reduced risk of systems outages
  • Reduced complexity of IT systems
  • Reduced maintenance costs
  • Reduced electricity consumption
  • Increased systems and data security

G-Suite Integrated Authentication

Complete (March 2020)

Authentication to G-Suite will be moved from the SD67 internal authentication services to Azure Active Directory. This will increase security, reduce maintenance, and improve user experience.

Microsoft Office 365: Teams

Complete (March 2020)

Microsoft Teams is an internal messaging app and workspace for real-time collaboration and communicationsonline meetings, and file sharing. Microsoft Teams will allow SD67 staff and students to work together remotely which is especially needed while we are apart for Covid-19 precautions. To request training please contact the IT Helpdesk or https://learning.sd67.bc.ca

VPN Upgrade

Complete (April 2020)

VPN (Virtual Private Network) allows you to connect to the SD67 networks when you are not at a SD67 site. This project will upgrade the current VPN infrastructure to enable more users to connect at the same time. The VPN allows you to receive software updates, connect to your home folder and staff shared drives.

This project was initiated and fast tracked to ensure staff could continue their work from home during the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Website Platform Migration

In-Progress (Quality Checks of Migrated Data / Cutover Planning)

Currently SD67’s website is hosted on the Scholantis SharePoint platform out of the Penticton datacentre. This project will migrate the website to the Edlio platform which is hosted in Microsoft’s Azure cloud datacentres in Canada. Edlio recently acquired Scholantis and are working with customers to move to their cloud hosted platform. This project will reduce maintenance, add features, improve user experience, and improve security. Having the SD67 websites hosted in the cloud will ensure we have an open communication channel to our community if there were ever an issue with our network or datacentre. For more information on Edlio websites please see: https://edlio.com/apps/pages/websites

Microsoft Office 365: Exchange Online

In-Progress (Staff & Student Email Migrated)

Exchange Online is email messaging hosted by Microsoft as a part of their Microsoft Office 365 Services. SD67 currently hosts our own Exchange services in our Penticton and Summerland Datacentres. Moving from Exchange hosted by SD67 to Exchange Online will reduce maintenance, increase security, and provide a better user experience such as:

  • Enabling Microsoft Teams Calendaring
  • Increase mailbox sizes to 99 GB
  • Better integration with other Microsoft Office 365 Services

Microsoft Office 365: OneDrive

In-Progress (Pilot / Migration Testing)

Microsoft OneDrive for Business is a tool to help you store and collaborate on files with coworkers and students. User files (home folders) will be migrated from SD67 file servers to Microsoft Office 365: OneDrive. The move to OneDrive will improve data security and user experience, allow file sharing, and increase storage available to users to 1 TB.

Classroom Projector Evergreen

In-Progress (Installing projectors)

SD67 currently has data projectors in over 95% of our classroom spaces. This project will put together an evergreen plan along with dedicated budget to work towards all classrooms always having a projector that is less than 10 years old.
