Professional Qualifications

Speech Language Pathologists (SLPs) have:

  • A Master's degree in speech language development and communication disorders
  • Licensing through the BC College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals
  • Membership in Speech-Language & Audiology Canada (SAC)

How Speech Language Pathologists Support Students

Speech Language Pathologists are integral members of school-based teams and work collaboratively with students, families, educators, and support staff.

Assessment & Diagnosis

  • Identify communication delays and disorders
  • Assess speech and language development
  • Provide recommendations for support

Intervention & Goal Setting

  • Develop communication goals
  • Plan intervention strategies
  • Provide direct support when appropriate

Consultation & Collaboration

  • Support school-based teams
  • Work with families and educators
  • Train and support staff

SLPs use current research and evidence-based practices to support students in reaching their academic, social, and emotional potential through healthy and effective communication.
