We know Halloween is a very exciting time for many of our students, and that many are
already planning their costumes and activities - so we thought we should let you know
Last year, we held our costume parade on the Friday before Halloween. Staff found that this allowed for a quieter day in classes on the 31st, and that students weren't already worn out by Trick-or-treat time! So, we will continue this new tradition, and
A special note to parents:
Halloween can be a fun, exciting event for all, but in order to keep it this way for
everyone, students are NOT allowed to bring or wear toy weapons of any kind with
their costume, or wear full head masks or frightening costumes, or bring 'gruesome' props. Please remember we have young children who will be participating in the parade (including the toddlers from the Naramata Child Development Centre), and we do not want to frighten them. Students who wear or bring such items will have to put them in the office, and parents may pick them up after school is dismissed.
October 28,2017: Garden Clean Up this Saturday 10:00am to 12:00pm, please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you can spare any time to help clean up our school garden for the winter. Your help is sincerely appreciated.
November 1st and 2nd: Next week we will be having early dismissal on Wednesday November 1st and Thursday November 2nd at 1:45 pm. We will be having our parent-teacher interviews at this time. Your child will be bringing home a sheet which gives you your scheduled time. Please contact the office(email@example.com) if the time you have been given will not work for you.
November 2, 2017: Picture Day 9:00am
November 2, 2017: Grade 3,4 and 5's Introduction to music lessons 3:00 to 5:00pm in the library
Last Monday we had a very special assembly, with James and Tenille Beaumont talking to our children about traditional Scottish instruments, and playing both the bagpipes (James) and the snare drum (Tenille). As was mentioned in our newsletter, they have offered to teach our students these instruments in an after-school club. These lessons will be offered to students in grade 3, 4 or 5 who wish to learn to play these musical instruments. The instructors are offering to give their time and expertise free of charge, but students will be expected to purchase/lease a practice instrument (approximately $40, but more information will be available about this at the first registration/information meeting). This is a wonderful opportunity for children who may be intrigued by these instruments, and who would like to take part in a great musical experience. The Beaumonts' will be meeting with any children and their caregivers on the following date to provide more information and registration:
Information and registration:
Thursday, November 2nd from 3:00 until 5:00 pm in the Naramata School Library.* This is a chance for parents to meet with the instructors, learn about the instruments and the lessons, and register their child(ren) at this time. Because the instructors are giving their time and expertise free of charge, we would expect a minimum two month commitment to lessons (November and December).
Regular scheduled lessons:
Thursdays, 3:00 -4:00 pm at Naramata School.
Regular weekly lessons will be held on Thursdays after school, beginning November 9th.
* Please let us know by responding to this email if you and your child will be attending the orientation and information session on Thursday, November 2, so that we have an idea of the number to set up for. If you are not able to attend the orientation and information meeting but you are interested in this opportunity, please also contact the school office. Parents/guardians must be present for registration. Thank you!
