Seamless Day Kindergarten at Queen's Park Elementary

seamless day

School District 67 is excited to pilot a Seamless Day Kindergarten program at Queen’s Park Elementary School. Seamless Day Kindergarten is a unique model that brings continuity of care throughout your child’s day. An early childhood educator (ECE) opens the Kindergarten classroom at 7:30am and welcomes the children in the program into Before School Care. During this hour before school, they will engage in games, stories and outside play before their school day begins. Once the bell rings, the ECE will spend the day working with all children in our three Kindergarten classrooms. At 11:30am a second ECE will arrive and will continue to spend the day working alongside our Kindergarten teachers bringing their expertise to the learning environment. When the bell goes at 2:30 to end the school day, the children in the After School Care program will meet the ECE and remain in their care until they are picked up by their families. During the after-school hours the ECE will provide play-based and developmentally appropriate activities for the children using classroom space as well as the playground, school garden, gym and library. The Seamless Day Kindergarten program will use BC’s Early Learning Framework as a guiding document and the ECE and Kindergarten teacher will work collaboratively designing the program and the environment.

This pilot program is designed to provide students with meaningful relationships, a sense of belonging, excellent care and learning opportunities with the shared gifts of our Early Childhood Educators and Classroom teachers. The program minimizes the children’s transitions throughout the day and allows them to spend their time in the same familiar environments throughout the school and with the same caring adults.

We have seen the success of this Seamless Day model in other districts around the province and look forward to bringing this opportunity to families and children within our community. This current pilot project is only open to families with children in Kindergarten at Queen's Park Elementary School.
