Student Services

The Board of Education of School District No. 67 advocates a strong public education system that provides quality education for all students.

The Student Services personnel in School District No. 67 are dedicated to working collaboratively with families, community agencies and school personnel to meet the academic, physical and social / emotional needs of students with exceptionalities.  We believe that positive relationships are the key to a strong support team and we encourage parents and students to be involved in the decision-making process and educational planning.

The school and district staff work together to offer students with special education needs a broad and effective spectrum of programs and services, presented in the enabling and inclusive educational environment.

We strive to look at student holistically and to allocate support to students based on their needs, not solely on their placement in a ministry category.  It is our mission to promote inclusive classroom environments where the needs of all students can be met positively and meaningfully.

Student Services staff provide both direct and consultative services to students with exceptionalities and the staff that supports them.  Our professional and para-professional staff work collaboratively with school based staff to address the challenges faced by students with exceptionalities:

  • Speech Language Pathologist
  • Psychologist
  • Teacher for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
  • Vision Resource Teacher
  • Counsellor
  • Physiotherapist
  • Occupational Therapist
  • Behaviour Intervention Support Teacher

In order to achieve the Provinces goal of education, some students will require special education services.  These children are identified by a School Based Team in consultation with parents and the following provincially mandated criteria:

When a new child arrives or a learning challenge is suspected, the child's teacher and parents request help from the School Based Team and / or School District Consultants.  The School Based Team and / or School District Consultants meet with the teacher and parent to:

    • Identify the problem
    • Generate practical solutions
    • Determine the best course of action
    • Put in writing (create the Individual Education Plan - IEP)
    • Implement the plan to help the child
